Partially girdled apple tree

Had tanglefoot on the tree with flag ribbon as a wrap. Sprinklers have been hitting the tree for over a year, and it appears the water was trapped behind he wrap. Looks like bacteria or fungus has partially girdled the tree. Apple tree is two years old. Other than preventing further water exposure, is there anything I can do? Can the tree be saved?

Do NOT sprinkler the tree. Put it on drip.

Definitely. I shut off that sprinkler head. Any way to save the tree?

Cross your fingers and hope.
Alternately, try some bridge grafts.

I don't have any experience on this, but what about dormant oil spray on the trunk? your tree may not be dormant, but not spraying the whole tree.

the bridge graft mentioned would be to prune some branches and do grafts across that bad area. That odds of successful grafts in this case may be low, but if it were my tree I would try it.

The tree will be fine. Will even encourage fruit production. Just let that wound dry out. And don't ever let sprinklers hit a tree again.
