Lapin Cherry tree

Its about five feet high but it has no branches... its just one long branch... when will it sprout branches or do i have a defected tree?

You probably need to head it back to about 3ft. It should sprout some branches. If not, keep heading it back each winter before it starts growing. You will be more likely to get good branching if you head back before it starts growing.

I got a one year old whip of a Lapins cherry, my other two new cherries where probably older and had already been pruned and had 3 new branches.

I trimmed my Lapins to the height that I wanted it to branch at and it has started putting out some new branches.
