Water Consevation

I am going into the mode of conseving water so I put a system to direct all the rain water coming from my house gutters to go toa water tank. I have a water pump and I pump the water throught a garden hose to water my trees and vegetable garden. I thought I will get some and spplement it with tap water. To my surprise the water I collect is enough for watering all my plants. I am excited that I am saving the environemental resources. I was bragging about it but one friend told me the rain water might not be safe because it collects germs from the air. I am not sure of what he is saying but to be honest it got me worried. Any opinions on that point.

Rainwater is probably better than your tap water for watering your plants. If you were trying to drink it then you would need a good filter because of all the things it will pick up coming off your roof.

Hey, I replied to you in the vegetable forum, lucky you got a universal topic!
Another thing to consider if you really want to conserve water, is get drip irrigation.. Your pump should be enough Pressure to work very well.. I'll tell you again, you are doing great, don't let anyone tell you otherwise! A normal gardener would die for a setup like yours!

Keep up the good work my friend,
Joe

Thanks Joe
I looked into a drip system and got hesitant because of the cost. I have a pony bwater pump with 300 gph speed it keeps good pressure into the hose and I irrigate mannually.

If you're not paying for water and you have enough how your irrigating now,it's unnecessarily, but it would conserve lots! How big is the tank? Where'd you purchase it?
