OK to plant blueberries where we took down an old blue spruce?

It was a big old tree and removing it has left a wonderfully large circle clear of grass and deep with old needles & woodchips (5-year-old ones we had mulched it with). It gets good morning and late afternoon sun. I am thinking 2-3 assorted blueberry bushes might be just the ticket. Thoughts? Suggestions? Objections? :-)
