renovating raspberry beds

I've had raspberries in the same places for 15 years and they have gotten to the end of their productive lives. I've been told to replant with new virus-free stock and not to put them in the same ground. That will involve preparing new ground and setting up new post and wire trellises which I would like to avoid if possible. Is there any way to treat the soil in the current location of the berries to remove or reduce the pathogens that would allow me to put the new plants there or should I just do without raspberries for a year, till up the ground, plant a cover crop and then plant new?
