Apple Borer

Earlier today, I dug an apple borer out of a 3 year old Goldrush tree. Interestingly, it wasn't near the ground like most of the apple borers I've read about. Instead, it was about 4 feet high, in the trunk.

I've taken a look at pictures online and I'm not sure which type. Flat-headed borers are the ones which go higher in the tree, but I don't think it has a flat head. Regardless, none of the pictures I've seen (of flat or round headed) have spots.

Rather than leaving the tree like this, I've cut the top off and grafted another type on. Now, I'll be able to compare Court Pendu Plat and Court Pendu Rose, side by side. There is still a lower whorl of branches, and I do have 3 other Goldrush trees.

In the below pic, you can see the larvae peeking out, just under where my finger touches the tree.
