Mulberry tree questions

Illinois mulberry is advertised as everbearing. Is this the same as the everbearing raspberries? Do the mulberry trees produce fruit pretty much all summer or just one crop?

I've also heard one can raise a mulberry tree as a bush by cutting it down to the ground.

If one wishes to go the bush route, how long does the tree need to be established to do this without killing it? Has anyone tried a mulberry bush? Do they produce enough fruit or is it better to leave them as a small pruned tree?

Illinois produces fruit througout the summer. I have been pruning my young tree to get a small compact shape. It appears to be a vigorous grower so not sure how short I will be able to keep it.

Hi GoodGround-
The Edible Landscaping catalog also recommends root pruning to keep it to a small size, and I may do that with the one I just planted. Do you know at what month/date you start getting fruit in NJ and when it finishes? Thanks,

I don't know how it'll translate to RI, but my IE trees here in KY bear for about 6 weeks, ripening from mid-June 'til the end of July.
