New grape vines....so confused.

Ok I've spent hours on the internet and think I know what am doing with the whe pruning training now(sort of). BUT when my vine came it looked like a dead stick now on the stick are about 5 separate shoots coming out. Do I leave all these to grow for now or do I need to pinch out some,all or any. Thanks in advance.

Leave the upper most aggressive one so it can rapidly get to the trellis you will if not already provided. I pinch back the others until I'm sure the one I want is strong enough not to be damaged. Good Luck. Bill

When you pinch back the branches you don't intend to keep, leave enough so it can be used if needed.

All gardening is local. Here in the West we generally let the plant sprawl the first year. Staking and training begins the first Winter after a year of growth.
