Green Gage plum

Hello again.
So yesterday I made a post asking what to do with my green gage plum which I planted last summer (zone 6b) and it hasnt flowered yet. Thanks again for the responses. I also contact hollybrook orchards from whom I purchased the tree. They advised my to cut it back till a few inches above the green/live part of the main leader. Can anyone tell if this tree will survive or should I just get rid of it. Also I was wondering if anyone knew of a reliable nursery I could buy a good Reine de bavay in my area.
