Anything wrong with light pruning now?

My young apricot trees are branching out strongly now. I see some branches starting which I will definitely be pruning off later... can I cut them off now? I'm thinking that it would allow the trees to put more energy into the limbs that will be permanent.

You've got the right idea. If you see branches that you want to get rid of, go ahead and prune them right now. Anytime between dormancy and about mid-August is just fine to prune if you see the need to do so.
