I found this story on the web,

'Cherry tree from space' mystery baffles Japan

" A cosmic mystery is uniting monks and scientists in Japan after a cherry tree grown from a seed that orbited the Earth for eight months bloomed years earlier than expected -- and with very surprising flowers."

RE: Interesting article about a cherry tree

"Of course, there is the possibility that exposure to stronger cosmic rays accelerated the process of sprouting and overall growth," she said.

Of course, the more plausible explanation is that genetics of the parent tree were altered by the pollen with which the seed was fertilized, not altered by cosmic rays. Silly story.

RE: Interesting article about a cherry tree

Yup, that could be another possibility.

As a matter of fact, I developed a plum that bloomed when it was 2 years old...but then it died.
