Mice or rabbit damage.

My 7 year old mutsu on M7. For whatever reasons, I just got some apples last year. This year was ready for a good crop of fine tasting apples. What a sad thing.

It was fairly shallow in digging it out, though the roots went wide just not deep. I replanted another one, this one is on M111 I think it was. Maybe Ill get something earlier than 7 years. I sure hope so.

Vole...that looks like its BELOW the snow line.... all my rabbit damage is ABOVE the snow line (i got hit hard by rabbits, but no vole damage)... That area you grow in looks perfect for voles...

Rabbit...I can almost see teeth marks. Protect them with plastic guard...for the life of the tree...lol

Vole, just like I've had here plenty. The tree is toast. Rabbits (around here) reach higher and leave somewhat more ragged damage.

lost two of my honeycrisp this year to mice. forgot to replace screen after fall maintenance, sad, but preventable. is that a screen in the pic at the base of the tree?

Use hardware cloth in the future. Wrap it nice and tight. Works great against voles.
