| During the mine march heat wave we had, all of my strawberry plants went into high gear. However, the nights are back to a more seasonal standard and the lows have been getting down to 38-40. I have hundreds of flowers on my strawberries, which have been blooming for the past 3 weeks. However, all of the buds keep turning black and shriveling up, while the flower petals stay vibrant and white. After doing some research I found what is called "black eye", which occurs when the strawberry blossoms are exposed to freezing temps, causing the pollen to become sterile and the berry will turn black.
The problem is, the last time we had a frost was over 2 weeks ago. Flowers that are just blooming now are still turning black even though they should be fine with the 40 degree night time temps. Any ideas? |
