Fuyu Jiro Persimmon tree

I bought two bare root persimmon trees : Fuyu jiro and Hachiya in January.

My Hachiya leafed out and grows nicely but my Fuyu Jiro is still like a log--no sign of breaking dormancy.

I know persimmons are supposed to leaf out late.
But I am in southern California so it should get enough heat.

Is this normal for the tree still in dormancy?

Just do a scratch test. If it is green under the bark then the tree is still alive and in dormant state. Some time they take forever to leaf out.

It is about to leaf out right now. I saw some at the nursery and they are still in dormant state with small buds out

Mine are just budding out now. I am in 9-a
and have had warm weather for a while.

My Fuyu and Suruga have both leafed out in March. Pretty excited because I lost a Suruga last year.
