Sure, eventually one branch each,....keep the better one.
So you had several buds, [6] which makes 6 branches, this is fine but if the stump was large, the graft can break off easily with a good wind, you need to support it for at least 2 season I would think. I graft onto smaller branches, [no support needed] chop fist, then graft the following season onto new shoots, not larger then your thumb, in one season it can grow together into one union, [picture].

I did not think about supporting the grafts in this case.
As you mention it seems to be a more fragile union. Very good point.

I did do wedge grafts on thumb sized ones as you mentioned last year and they worked very easily. This is my first time to do bark grafts.

I did consider chopping the tree this year and letting the shoot develop for grafting next year. I had not heard about that method mentioned much so did not want to try it.
