propagating strawberries from containers

Just for fun I've put some strawberries in a hanging strawberry planter. Mainly because I got them on sale for one dollar at Big Lots. I used babies from my traditional matted row strawberries. But I was wondering is it possible to get babies from these hanging planters. Do you just detach them when they send off runners and plant them in a prepared bed or a flat or something of that sort?

Last year when my hanging pots started to run I set them on a table , set the babies in small pots and let them take root
