My Honan Red persimmon finally leafed out on 5-17-13. I believe this a good variety for places with late frost. BTW, I grafted this one on Asian persimmon seedling rootstock. Next year, I will graft it on D.V. rootstock. Tony

Mine leafed out months ago. Fruit about the size of a quarter. I enjoy this one. Has a vanilla flavor to my taste buds. Not to happy with Tamopan. Mild sweetness, mild flavor. Hope it will be better this year.

KW, How old is your tree and how tall it is? I will try to keep my to about 8ft. Tony

I purchased it two years ago from a local nursery. It had to be about two years old when I purchased it. About 7ft tall currently. I also don't let my asian persimmons get taller than 8ft. I also have saijo and suruga. My suruga drops most of the fruit each year. What it doesn't drop, the squirrels get. Have yet to taste a suruga.

I have Honan Red on virginiana rootstock. Small tree, rich and very sweet tasting small fruit. Mine leafed out about the same time as the other varieties.

Creek, My Honan Red leafed out so late on a Giant Hana Fuyu rootstock. I will graft it on a D.Virginiana next year to compare the timing of bud break between the two rootstocks. Do you have any of the same variety of Kaki on a different rootstocks? If yes, is there a different time on bud break? Tony

I do, but not really looking for one, I really didn't notice any major differences between any of the different varieties, some on virginiana and some on lotus rootstocks.
