My Purple Leaf Sand Cherries are loaded with cherries

Most years, my purple leaf sand cherries don't have any fruit on them. I think the most I've ever found was about a half dozen. I have gotten to try them though and they had a good flavor, good enough to eat out of hand and were about the size of a pie cherry. This year they are going to have LOTS of cherries. We didn't have a late frost which is really unusual, and I seem to have two different types of purple leaf sand cherries that bloomed at the same time this year and never have before.

They're edible right?

Some sources say not to eat them if they're bitter because they can vary in the level of cyanide. Does that mean to let them get well ripened or does it mean that they can vary from shrub to shrub? If I taste some on each shrub and they're ok does that mean that they're ALL ok on that shrub? Do I need to buy a cyanide tester? lol
