avocado nightmare.

I have been trying to grow avocado for a long time, I have finally managed to get a plant out of a seed but it just keeps on growing and growing without making big leaves, or reinforcing its trunk. A friend of mine told me to cut two third of it at a 45 degree angle, is was not too sure about doing so given how much har work getting an avocado plant took me but I did it anyways, but the avocado just kept on growing even more, it is now 1 meter long with just 3 leaves at the top. What should I do for it to stop growing and grow a solid trunk and leaves?

My guess is that the plant is reaching for sunlight. It thinks it is surrounded by other plants, in a forest somewhere, and it is reaching for the light. It is not unusual for young trees and shrubs to get "leggy" when they are situated in low light locations. If you have a sunny spot, and you can relocate the plant there, you could prune it back and see if it will grow some new leaves.

I think e is correct. Know that a tree planted from seed will rarely grow quality fruit.

Thanks for your replies, I dont care much about the fruits I just want it to grow a solid trunk and have a beautiful plant really.
