Me too! It's lovely to have diversified fruit plantings, so there's something to look forward to. My gooseberries and juneberries are looking great, too.

Wow!!

I have one little Red Lake Currant that even put out a handful of fruit last year! Very exciting since they don't grow here. I have hopes my gooseberry will put on a fruit or two, but once again not a plant for my zone.

Yeah I like currants a lot. Well I like red currants. Kippy, what about Golden Currant? CA has a number of native currant species, gooseberries too. Many would grow in zone 10. I want to purchase a swamp currant (Ribes lacustre) myself for the wet conditions at my cottage.

Clove currants and pixwell gooseberries are setting a bumper crop.

The currants are beginning to form a 2 hedges. They are all a little over four feet tall and have been in the ground for seven years. It just takes that long. Fresh soil then mulch every year. They really do not need any more fertilizer than they get from the lawn fertilizer.

One hedge has two varieties of black currants and the other hedge has Champagne, Blanca and Jonkeer von Tets. Buying new netting today! Mrs. G

They look excellent Mrs G! I don't have any that old or that big. I am trying to grow two cordons, so far so good, although they keep putting out new canes at the base. i remove them all except one, in case the cordon dies. Impressive growth on them though. Well except the cordon, one is growing well the other is stalled. It needs 1 more inch to reach the top of the fence, and it's just sitting there argh! The other is growing well but needs a foot of growth to reach the top of the fence. It's going to take a couple more years to form it properly, but once done it's going to look awesome!

Drew it will look awesome when your cordons are complete, as the fruits are so graceful. You will need to net them. Bought my new yardage of netting today. Mrs. G
