Dang, my strawberries took a hit from the cold.

Thought I was home free by covering my strawberries during the coldest nights recently. Apparently some frost got through, and/or the blossoms were more suceptible than I thought. So far, my first 20 blossoms have a black center. Bye bye berries. Hopefully the later ones will be ok. No messin' around next year...I'm coverin' the crap outta them.

Later ones (not open yet) will be fine. Same thing happened with my first open flowers...i have all kinds that have opened since that are fine... They are very touchy when it comes to frost...I think in the future I would cover with thick blankets.

I had a some not-yet-open buds open a couple days later with black eyes, but they're all fine now and fruit sizing up. I'd say I lost about 10% to the freeze. Definitely learned to cover them even for a light frost warning.

Yeah, I found a viable berry, so the rest might be ok.

Had to cover again tonight. The next county over has a frost advisory...not taking any chances.
