I planted strawberries last year, didn't have a great yield, and this year they plants look green and healthy. I've yet to see a flower. Any recommendations on fertilizer?

RE: Strawberries

I see your question got no attention, so I'll give it a try. First of all, where are you? Here in SE PA, we have been picking strawberries for a couple of weeks. If you live south of the arctic you should surely have flowers by now and most likely have fruit. The first year you plant plants, you should remove flowers/fruits so that they get strong roots and vigorous growth. The second year you should get a bumper crop if all goes well. It sounds like you are experiencing in your second year what you should have in your first, no flowers and no fruit. Spread some compost on them, give them a shot of chemical fertilizer, or whatever fertilizing option seems best for you. It looks like you will have to defer your enjoyment of berries until next season. Is it possible that all your flowers got froze in a cold snap? I hope this helps a bit.

RE: Strawberries

I ordered a fertilizer from Gardens Alive called Strawberries Alive. I ordered it for a few reasons: I container garden and my husband was complaining about deformed fruit. The deformities are caused by a deficiency. I literally do not pay them any attention so I am happy with the little bit of fruit I get. I think I would get more fruit if I spent a little bit more time caring for them....

Here is a link that might be useful: Gardens Alive
