My damson plum tree is dropping its fruit. I'm picking up maybe 50-75 small hard green plums every day. I washed off the aphids with water as best I could. Now I am finding this insect on a few of the plums. It is about the size of a ladybug. Can anyone identify it for me?

| Isn't that a ladybug? That one is a keeper.

Yes, that's a ladybug pupa -- a good thing. As for the dropping fruit, that may be the normal "June drop" you may have heard about. The tree gets rid of non-pollinated fruit.

Also check your plums for signs of the plum curculio. Many plums drop now just to lessen the load but it could also be that the curculio has damaged them. The best way to find out for sure is to cut the dropped fruit open and look for a worm trail. Scott

Hello scott, my prune trees has the same problem as described. The plums has got little ladybug-to-be and when cutting open a plum it has tails of insects or worms. I definitely do something wrong ... what can I do to get rid of it?
