I have Tennessee Warblers hitting my plums right now, stealing the nectar. Have no idea if this is bad for the tree (pollination?) or not, but it scares me :) I also have your problem maker in my yard, but have no issues with them outside of their love for strawberries (when they start to turn red). Good luck..its a long season and the fun starts early. Beetles, diseases, squirrels, birds, hail, wind ....

You nailed it Mrs. G. Those catbirds are pretty, but they are really tough on fruit patches. They have been the leading cause of the need for netting on my blueberries and the few cherries that I get. Catbirds are kinder with my raspberries. They, and the brown thrashers, seem to only eat the raspberries that don't get picked and fall to the ground.

They like my fruit patch some much, they usually nest nearby in the thicker brush.

I just planted strawberries this year. I guess that means that I will need more netting.

Also new this year are gooseberry and currants. Do they eat those as well?

They seem to nest right next to my Blueberry patch. Their already checking out the bushes, little do they know I'm almost finished with a totally enclosed blueberry area with a door and no Cat birds welcome.

Northernmn, Yes, they will eat your currants if they are black or red. They tend to stay away from white currants and green gooseberries. But I just don't trust em! Mrs. G

My blueberry net got misaligned and the catbirds got under it last year. I had half a dozen of them stuck in the net at once.

Our catbird family showed up about a week ago in their usual nesting place in the long roadside hedge, and it's time to finish making the pvc pipe frame that will (I hope) hold the 1 large piece of netting over my 3 dwarf fruit trees. Not a moment too soon!
