I used to make a duct tape band.
I think a tree can stretch plastic wrap. I wouldn't leave the same wrap there permanently.

What about masking tape? Paper would be easy for the tree to eventually break through. Has anyone else tried masking tape?

I've used masking tape for grafts. The trees easily break it when needed.

Hi, consider using products the way they were designed by the manufacturer, and then you can modify things later after you see how everything is supposed to work. I don't recall Tangle Guard Tree Banding Material being very expensive. Just a thought...

Great Lakes IPM, my source for tangletrap, sells spools of stretch wrap on a cardboard stick specifically for the purpose. This is a company that caters to both commercial and backyard growers with much lower prices than I've found elsewhere.

I have used masking tape, put on sticky side out, to stop crawling insects on my small fruit trees. I have plastic collars around the trunks as a guard from my weed eater and the earwigs and ants crawl undert neath them to get at the trees sap leaks. The masking tape only lasts a month or so but, its cheap and always available.
