If its getting warm at times you really want to get some sprays down. Especially when it gets into the 80s everything moves a lot faster on the bugs and diseases front with wet and warm conditions. So, I would spray in the middle of it as long as there is not 1/2" or more of rain forecast coming. A huge downpour actually is not that bad, the bugs don't move around and the diseases are getting rinsed off the leaves. Just be ready with the sprayer the instant the rain stops. Here we are having light rains now that I don't pay a lot of attention to as far as spray timing. Note that some sprays are systemic so all you need to do is get them down and dried and you are good. So it depends also on what you are spraying.

Use a good sticker and a couple hours of good drying conditions and it takes quite a bit of rain to wash most materials off. I manage orchards where it sometimes takes me two weeks to cover them all during wet periods. I never go back and spray an orchard because of even heavy rain- sticking to my schedule of two insecticide (+fungicide) sprays 10-14 days apart rain or shine.

Amazingly it always works. For the last few years I've been using a latex based spreader sticker called Tactic.

That said, I'm almost sure in Long Island you will be fine waiting until Sunday. Petals aren't off the apples yet- even in the NY banana belt.
