Mine have sent up a few. I don't consider it anything to worry about since these plants are definitely slow growing, and nothing that would get out of control in my book.

I know of several large old specimens planted between a parking lot and a major road that have a beautiful tree-like shape, with no suckers in sight anywhere.

The only problem is that I would more then likely be coppicing them every few years. There are quite a few trees that sucker but only if the top is killed or damaged (think black locust).

They are gorgeous plants and are a versatile plant. Just have to be very mindful of suckering plants/invasive roots.

In the drier parts of Canada, the sea buckthorn may be well-behaved. In my mild wet climate, they suckered for over 10 feet in some directions.

I would think planting annual legumes would be a more efficient way of adding N to the soil.

Males and females needed for fruit. Males get very big very fast; need almost annual pruning to keep size in check.
