I purchased a Pink Lady apple tree this March and I was told I did not have to worry about a pollinator for this apple. I have, however, read that it does indeed require another apple tree to pollinate it and one suggestion was to plant a Fuji apple along with my Pink Lady. I do not want to add more fruit trees in my yard, but if it is necessary for my PL to bear fruit, I will buy a Fuji. Any comments on this? Molly

It does require a pollinator. I've always heard Yellow Delicious is kind of universally thought of as a pollinator for most other apples too. In fact they make note of that on the Stark Bro's website. Or maybe even a Crab Apple if you wanted to go that way. They're pretty showy too. But it needs something that's close within the flowering group that it's in to pollinate.

Thank you for the response, although I was hoping to hear I do not require a pollinator. I will go shopping for a mate this coming week. Thanks again, Molly

Have a friend, neighbor, or relative with an apple tree? Consider grafting onto your tree.

This year it was an exceedingly late bloomer, the first year where it came out so much later, I think. Fruit set on it was light, maybe because there wasn't a lot of pollen around from compatible trees. Usually here there is much more overlap from mid to late bloomers.

Unfortunately, none of my neighbors have apple trees, so I will have to purchase and plant another variety, most probably Fuji since I understand it has a compatible blooming time and should do well in my southeast Texas climate. Molly
