Pineberry advice

this is my 2nd year growing pineberries. I have 3 cultivars. White D produces the largest berries and is a prolific producer. I would suggest if you want to try these, to grow that one. Nourse Farms developed a cultivar, but it is small and requires a pollinator. I would avoid it. Burpee, and another place in TN sells White D. The Strawberry store might too?
I had 2 plants last year, and planted out the runners. I now have around 15 White D plants. Here are a few

The berries are near ripe now, and quite large for pineberries

Here is the new patch from runners. In the foreground are some June bearers, and the back row is pineberries and musk berries, mostly pine berries.

I have 7 or 8 June bearers, and the same amount of everbearing, and alpines too. Some Musk also which i have yet to taste. I also have Mara Des Bois. Many are very good, but for myself, the pineberry is superior.
A couple problems, they hang low, so need to be off the ground, as you can see, i use pine straw.
Also they are extremely hard to tell when ripe! Argh!
They should have a tint of red, wait till the achenes are red to the tip. They should be soft too, but are a little soft when almost ripe. When I think they are ripe, i wait a day then pick them. They taste quite bad unripe. So if it tastes bitter or green, it's not ripe. they are sweet and have a very unique flavor. The snails love them!

Must be good if the snails approve!! Birds are pretty good judges of fruit. Actually the berries are bigger than I expected.

I assume the White D is a June bearer?

"I assume the White D is a June bearer?"

This is debatable. I have so little experience. They seemed to grow till fall last year, so i would say no, but it may be they just started late the first year. Here is what Strawberry.org says about White D

White D pineberries were developed in Sweden and have a bright future. There is the possibility that the genetic traits that dictate strawberry production have endowed this variety with everbearing properties. Should that prove true as testing continues over the next few years, this variety would likely become the most preferred one, at least until superior cultivars are developed. Another positive factor in favor of this Pineberry is its fruit size. While still considered small, its berries are generally larger than the pineberries of the other available varieties. The aroma of this variety of Pineberry is exceptional and the pineapple flavor is mild.

On color, in a greenhouse out of direct sun they will remain all white. I grow mine outside in full sun, so they have a red/blue tinge to them.

Also on color, it is said yellow cherries fool birds, and I've seen a squirrel pass on my yellow raspberries.Looked at them, handled one, and left. Pineberries may very well be bird proof, but the snails figured it out. I just added snail bait and is the white specks in the photo. i killed 4 this morning. I need to add a copper strip around the edge of my raised bed. That should keep them out.
