You can train back upright but I'd probably also head the branches to make them stiffer. It sounds like they are far from being able to support the weight of any fruit.

What you do also depends on your training system.

Would you head them back now? I don't care about fruit or anything this year. I could cut them back to 6 Inch stubs if I thought it would be better in the long run.

They have about 6 inches of new growth already.

And yes you are correct they are pretty skinny limp branches.

I'm a little confused. Is it last yrs growth that is floppy? Surely the 6 inches isn't flopping over is it?

No, This years growth is the last 6 inches on a 30" limb.

The limbs are all somewhere between 24 and 36 inches long, about the diameter of a pencil and drooping much further down than horizontal.

I would take a picture but I have attempted to pull them up above horizontal so the picture would not show the problem.

I'm just not sure that my efforts to tie them up is going to do any good.
