Santa Rosa Plum Tree not blooming

I planted this tree about 4 years ago. The first year I got 2 plums, the second year about 30. There were absolutely delicious. Then last year it was attacked by japanese beetles and before I could get the traps out, it was too late, it was badly diseased and done for the year. So in the fall, I read about pruning it and per a diagram pruned my tree in the shape of a martini glass, removing every other branch so air could circulate. Come spring, it looked really healthy so I put the trap out and already I have 1/3 bag of beetles. They didn't get to the tree at all, it still looks super healthy, but I don't have any blossoms on it yet. Shouldn't I have some by now? I'm wondering if because of last year's severe beetle attack, the tree will take another year to recover.

Where are you located?

I am in SoCal and my trees bloomed months ago, but the odd winter weather seems to have really effected the fruit set.

Next time reach for the Sevin- traps are ineffective. Making flowers requires energy which tends to in short supply for a defoliated tree. The J. beetles probably consume the forming flower buds for next year as well.

Or find out if surround repels J. beetles if you have concern about utilizing synthetic agricultural medicines.
