Both my navel orange and mystery apple tree have had a prolonged bloom period and I was hoping to learn why. I assume the warm winter we had here in Southern California had something to do with it. My apple tree stopped blooming about 2 weeks ago and my navel orange has almost full size oranges on it yet it still has a good amount of blooms on it. This picture was taken today. My kumquat appears to be just starting to bloom.

Citrus don't need chilling to bloom normally so if off it's something else. Most apples on the other hand have extended bloom period unless they receive lots of chilling. Lots being 1000 hrs or more. Mine here are still blooming and we had 1025 hrs below 45F but half that was below freezing so ineffective.

It could be normal for all I know. I'm pretty new at growing things in general. I was just curious as to why it would take so long and what caused such a long and drawn out bloom.

Where I lived in Northern California had lots of Mandarin Oranges. When I got to know some of the growers they told me that Oranges had 6 different blooming periods. If you lived in SoCal you could have potential pollination on any of those six periods. Not so much in NorCal. I can't talk about the apples. Your observation on the apples should let you know whats up with them over the next few years.
