Are Apricots from my tree good to eat with these brown spots?

For The first time since I have lived in my current home I am able to get some of the Apricots off our tree. Usually every year the squirrels will get to them before they are ripe and eat every last one of them, despite the fact that we feed the squirrels nuts and bread and other stuff(the little jerks!). Anyway I've pulled some off the tree which are softish to the touch and I've eaten a few, as have my kids, that have brown spots on them that you can see in the picture below. I'm now wondering if this is ok to be doing and not dangerous as i've never seen these kind of spots on store bought apricots. Also any advice on when exactly apricots are ripe would be great. I've just read that you can pick them when they are slightly green or more orangish and give a bit when you squeeze them. I tasted a green one that was hard and although not sweet it was still pretty good.
