Odd actually. We get a good fruit crop 3 out of 5 yrs...late frost and we accept that coin toss...
Last year insane amount of fruit harvest...
Apples, asian pear, etc ..
2 weeks ago everything looked good, and just started to 'bag'...
Today...
But nothing there except the cherry tree...
No fruit, just black stubs...
I'll call my local co extesion on monday to find what might have traveled through ? ...any ideas?
Basil and tomatoes are fine, so no late frost...zone 5a
I'll take pics ....no internet here...on my phone

RE: Black dead fruit...?

Curious wonder if you fertilized but it's usually a late frost so hold off on the disease treatments.

I know from my mom's house a frost doesn't always 'register'. This year her apples all have apples growing except the 2 closest to her driveway. Cold air got those blossoms but spared the rest. Over the years that 'tiny valley' that funnels a 'cold air stream' has killed other tender plants I've planted in the spring too.

If your fruit and/or vegetables are in a 'sunken' area compared to nearby areas they will have this happen from time to time. e.g. I've noticed most time year round the hollow my mom lives in is 3 - 5 degrees cooler than at the top of the knob. You can actually watch the temperature go down as you drive down the knob into the valley. That's what the call a micro-climate I guess.
