Watermelon: is a dried tendril ALWAYS required?

geekella

so i know there are two very important things to harvesting a ripe watermelon: dried tendril and yellow soil spot

however, i have two sugar baby watermelons that have these very prominent and large yellow spots but the tendril is not really dried....the yellow spots are so big that i'm very worried the fruit is ripe, and it just so HAPPENS to not have a dried tendril? i'm patient enough to wait longer, but now i'm just worried i'll wait too long

thanks for any input!
