Found two of these flies each on different buds on my montmorency cherry. It seems to be sucking the life out of the buds. A little damage on a few of the leaves. The tree is new this year and it's doing ok but not nearly as well as any of the others I planted. The first pic is just showing the damaged leaves. The other two are of the bug.

Did you get hit with hail? The leaf damage looks like hail damage to me. The insect looks like a wasp that could be sucking the sap oozing from the damage.
|
Nope. No hail that I've seen and the other trees aren't showing any damage. Haven't seen any sap on the tree.

Without a better image, it's difficult to tell what this insect might be. It doesn't really look like a bee or wasp or similar to me. Perhaps one of the Cimbicid sawflies?
