How long do you wait before swapping out a tree?

I've had a Beauty plum in my yard for four years. It is a nice looking, healthy tree. It has a 4" diameter trunk. It has given me 2 plums, both last year. This year it doesn't look like there are any plums on it. I've got pluots next to it that have been in the ground 1.5 years that are fruiting nicely so I don't think it is due to anything I'm doing or not doing. I'd like to get something else that produces more...maybe an Bleinheim apricot or another pluot. My wife tells me that I should have more patience when I tell her that I'm going to get rid of it. Any advice? Keep waiting or cut my losses?

Apricots are particularly iffy in SoCal.

Contact your county's Extension Service office to ask what are the kinds most likely productive in your area.

I had the chainsaw warming up in the bull pen this spring and if you read my post below I had 2, 10 year old trees set their first fruit. Don't give up hope.

Wow, 10 years. That is a lot more patient than I think I could ever be. I think my options are to wait one more year or to go ahead and pull it now and plant something else in its place.
