I want to get another tart or hungarian cherry. what is the best rootstock for acidic clay soil? Where would you recommend buying the tree from?

Thanks!

I think you should try a Montmorency on Gisela 5 rootstock. I have mine in clay and it has done fine. But you will need to add some lime to bring the pH up to at least 6.0

You can get the tree from Raintree. It won't ship for another 8 months or so though.

If you don't mind a much bigger tree and waiting longer for fruit, Colt has been a very healthy, vigorous rootstock in my slightly acidic, VA red clay. I purchased most of my cherry trees from Burnt Ridge. I've also got some on Gisela 5 from Adams County that I planted last fall.
