Last year I lost 2/3 of young canes during rainy windy day in the beginning of summer. This year I was going to tie each cane to the trellis to avoid it, but couldn't do it: I have grape planted against 6 ft tall chain link fence, with two last year canes attached to the top bar. In all pruning pictures they draw young canes hanging down from these horizontal old canes . But my go strait up in the air, and bending them down is not possible - they just snap. We had a day of moderate rain and some light wind. Several canes already broken in half. How can I save the rest from a real storm, that will come for sure sooner or later?
