Both Blue Bean Shrubs were planted in my Massachusetts yard in 2009 in moist rich loam in a slightly shaded area and appeared to thrive briefly. One died within a year. The other appeared dead this spring despite the mild winter. I noticed that at the base of the older plant the bark was absent. I am wondering if these are difficult plants to grow?
