Slugs on young grapes and apples?

I seem to have more than normal amounts of slugs in a second year orchard. I have about 48 apples and 300 grapes plants. The slugs are climbing the trees and truncks of the grape. I don't see any damage but assume they are there to eat? Can they be a problem?

Oh Yeah. And they seem to prefer home grown fruit and veggies over eating weeds or lawn grass. But their favorite treat is getting to munch down on one of their freshly killed kindred after I put one down. Within 30 minutes of one getting eliminated it is common to see another slug show up and begin "recycling" the squished one.

Do they eat just the fruit or the plant as well? I see no damage to the young no fruiting plants
