| I read previous posts on kiwis and the information was not clear whether fuzzy kiwi males can pollinate hardy kiwi female. I have a friend who has a fuzzy kiwi male that blooms at the same time as a my issai hardy kiwi. I'm wondering if I can use some pollen from his flowers to pollinate my kiwi. |

| I have a couple hybrid arguta/delisiosa vines ... a ken's red(f)/Chico_Hayward(m) and cordifolia(f)/Chico_Hayward(m) that were grown from seed. So it is possible if you have pollen. Tyler |

| I was told the main problem is the fuzzies usually bloom too much earlier than hardies. So, they will pollinate IF they overlap. One year my hardy male did not bloom and I still got kiwis so I expect one of my fuzzy males did the job. Scott |

| I agree Scott. I can't imagine a fuzzy blooming that late.. I have a male chenensis in my greenhouse that finished blooming 2 or 3 weeks ago... my argutas are at least a week or 2 yet from blooming. I've saved fuzzy pollen in the freezer though with success using it later. Tyler |

| I collect the male flowers... cut off the stamens that have the pollen attached onto a piece of paper. I fold up the paper like an envelope and tape it shut, label it, and put it in the freezer. When you are wanting to use it.... take it out of the freezer and let it sit for awhile before using a qtip or kids paint brush to apply the pollen onto the female flowers. |
