| I have a couple of Plum Trees (Prune Plums I Believe) that have black growths on it branches. Can you tell me what it is? Should I be concerned about it? Is there a treatment? Another issue is that very often, unripe plums begin weeping a sticky substance which causes the plum to be ugly and inedible. Can you tell me what it is? Should I be concerned about it? Is there a treatment?

| The answer to your first question is definitely Black Knot.Yes it can affect the overall health of the tree.It needs to be cut off or away to clean wood. I'm not sure yet about the fruit problem. Brady |

| Yes, cut out all of those such things as soon as you see them, they will kill the tree if not. They start out green before turning black so also be on the lookout for green ones. Sticky stuff can be from aphids, or you could have curculio or moth infestation in the fruits. The first step is to cut open any fruit like that to look for bug paths inside. Scott |
