Hi Gang...i've been monitoring my Raspberry and Blackberry bushes this year daily after i found out about Cane Borers last year and i've killed a couple and noticed bore tunnels on the canes i've tipped this year only to have more tunnel out, i even had plants i bought at Lowes and they had tunnels at the top of the handles meaning that they were already infested with them when i bought them in April.....seems the only way to get rid of them is to look for tip dieback and prune on new shoots and actually looking for them on the leaves or about the bushes and kill them with a fly swatter or by hand, hard to get rid of these suckers when you buy plants with larvae already dug in. Here's a picture of the one i got yesterday, don't know if it's a male or female but i'll kill em all.

You may have borers, but that's not what's in the pic.
|
I think it might be a lightning bug (firefly). :-) Agreed that it is not a red necked cane borer.

Here's a link with a picture. The red necked cane borers I have seen have been very small and easy to miss if you are not looking specifically for them.
Here is a link that might be useful: Red Necked Cane Borer
