I am growing watermelons on my raised beds and the entire area is fenced with welded wire. So I looked at my watermelons I pollinated and they are the size of a thumb. One of them that was beside the fence had something that looks like claw marks on them, I'm guessing a ground hog or squirrel tried reaching in to grab it but they couldn't. The claw marks are about 1/4 the way into the watermelon probably going past the white rind. This is my first time growing watermelons, so I'm wondering if I should I just cut the watermelon off or are they able to recover from it?
