apple trees

I have 2 small almost foot tall apple trees planted in the ground. They are doing ok. On one I planted it a site where an azalea was planted...I forgot that I stuck a fertilizer spike there....the top new leaves of the apple tree leaves are a little yellow with green veins. I gave it some lime. The other apple tree planted in a virgin site has beautiful leaves. Any tips on how to make them thrive? I have decent soil ..about 6.7 ph. I didn't add compost at planting or anything.
