Red Flame leaves weird ... ? grafted!

I have now tried the third time to grow a Red Flame grapevine; twice they died from winter temps. but the third time the frozen vine re-grew up from the roots. Have some nice long vines now w/time clusters of grapes but am wondering: could this grape have been grafted & what I have now from the root/stock is not the Red Flame variety that I bought? Most people say they are not aware of grape grafting..
The newer leaves look 'battered' but we had no hail & the skeletonizing bugs are not apparent like last year. Local Master Garden people say it looks like some kind of weed spray damage? None used anywhere in our area that I know of. About to give up on the Red Flame ... I know they grow well here as one of the Master Gardeners has had vone for several years!
