Hey, all. I bought the new variety of dwarf raspberry, "Raspberry Shortcake," and am thinking of bringing it to my community garden. To prevent it from spreading all over the place, I'm thinking of keeping it in a large pot, but burying the pot. I would keep it above ground, but my concern is someone taking it (it's a huge community garden, and unfortunately, that stuff happens). What are your thoughts on this? Think it'll work?

Probably work out well for someone. But it probably won't be you. Surely you have room for a pot at home, right?

I don't have room for a pot at home, which is why I have a plot at a community garden... I WISH I had space to grow my food at home. It would be easier... And why can't that person be me?

One would like to think that everyone that participates in a community garden is a honest person. Unfortunately sometimes opportunity for selfish gain is greater than community spirit. I agree with Fruitnut. I would say that the Raspberry Shortcake plant you purchased was probably expensive and you are taking a big risk in planting it in a community garden. I am an optimist and I like to think that everyone's good. However, I would not put my hard earned plant in a situation where someone could very easily take it. BTW-Not to burst your bubble but I bought one of those and ended up taking it back. The fruit was not very good tasting. It was sour and not good. I am a container gardener and I have other raspberry bushes and they have delicious berries so I don't think it was anything I did or did not do to make them taste the way they did.
