 o
July and plums

Right on schedule, the JBs have shown up, heading right for the cherries and plums. I went out today and wrapped up the baby plum, that took so long to leaf out.

That leaves the Stanley tree. Last year, I determined that I was losing a whole lot of fruit to PCs in plums, active much later in the year than I'd supposed possible. I started to spray acetamiprid instead of triacizide, with promising results. This year, I started the acetamiprid in May, and for once, the ground under the Stanley tree isn't covered with aborted fruits. I sprayed again today, figuring to get both PCs and JBs with a single hit.

It would be interesting to see how this regime would have helped the Asian plums, but since I have no Asian plums this year, it'll have to wait.

RE: July and plums

my kid found a couple JBs today.

Very few plums this year...Maybe 10 pluots. No apricots. A few sour cherries, almost no apples. Not a very productive year. Lots of raspberries and had quite a few strawberries. I do have a lot of veggies :)

RE: July and plums

I have Stanley plums, some Gala apples, and Kieffer pears so badly chewed by PCs that I'm pulling them off. Nothing else at all.

But strawberries were good, and when I can find the vegetables among the weeds, it's been a good year for them, too. Except for the asparagus, which has been drowned.

Sure is wet! I foresee a lot of fungicide sprays in my future.
