| Right now I'm growing a pineberry, a seascape strawberry, and an alpine strawberry plant in one large container. Everything is going okay except for the alpine strawberry leaves are really washed-out. I'm not sure if this is nitrogen deficiency or from overwatering, particularly as it's just the one plant. This same plant also has burnt tips of all the old leaves, which I read would be from magnesium deficiency. Do alpines have different watering or nutrient requirements? Any suggestions? I'm a newbie, so any suggestions in general would be greatly appreciated! (I'm not 100% sure on the best feeding for strawberries as is aside from general fertilizer anyway.) |

| I also had a hard time growing alpines. They did well in the spring and early summer, but by late summer all died. One I found very hardy and easy to grow was a wild North American native, Fragaria virginiana. Edible landscapes has it. I only have the white fruited one. It produces about 150 berries a season. My 2nd season and the plant is doing very well. It tastes like yellow alpines to me. Pretty good! My wife does not like it as they have a mushy texture. I usually consume them while picking other berries. |
